It takes a thief to catch a hacker, but it takes this particular disaster-prone duo to burn the whole system down. Identity Thief 2: Double Trouble reunites the world’s most frustrating odd couple for a high-speed, high-tech comedic adventure that pits gritty, old-school grifting against the faceless chaos of modern cybercrime.

Thirteen years after their chaotic road trip forged an unlikely friendship, Sandy Patterson (Jason Bateman) is finally living a peaceful, meticulously organized life as a CFO in Denver. Meanwhile, Diana (Melissa McCarthy) has (mostly) gone straight, living off the grid as an eccentric “security consultant” who tests corporate fraud protection by gleefully breaking into it. But Sandy’s stable world collapses overnight when a mysterious, anarchic entity known only as “The Glitch” (Pete Davidson) obliterates his entire digital existence. Using advanced AI deepfakes and algorithmic terror, The Glitch steals not just Sandy’s money, but his reputation, framing him for crimes he didn’t commit.

Desperate, penniless, and unable to prove his own identity to the authorities, Sandy has no choice but to track down the only person who knows how to cheat the system better than the system itself: Diana. Together, they embark on a frantic, globetrotting mission to hunt down The Glitch. However, the dynamic has shifted; Sandy must learn to embrace his inner criminal to survive, while Diana attempts to teach him the subtle art of the con. Complicating matters is Agent Silas (John Cho), a ruthless cyber-crimes investigator who is convinced Sandy and Diana are the masterminds behind the chaos.

From infiltrating high-stakes crypto conventions in Miami to outsmarting arrogant Gen Z hackers who think they know everything, the duo proves that while technology evolves, the hustle remains the same. Bursting with signature throat punches, disastrous car chases, and surprisingly touching moments, Identity Thief 2 shows that sometimes, you have to lose yourself completely to find your best friend again.
