UFC Paris Shocker: Underdog Knocks Out Hooker in Round One, Pros Call for Chandler

Posted on September 6, 2026

Salahdine Parnasse made a thunderous UFC debut at UFC Paris on Saturday, knocking out Dan Hooker in the first round in a performance that had the MMA world taking notice.

The French fighter, who entered the octagon as a significant underdog, needed less than one round to dispose of the New Zealand veteran. Parnasse landed a devastating combination that sent Hooker to the canvas, forcing referee Marc Goddard to step in and wave off the contest.

The finish was so emphatic that reaction poured in from across the sport. Prominent figures in MMA immediately took to social media to weigh in, with several pros suggesting that Parnasse should be fast-tracked to a showdown with former Bellator champion Michael Chandler.

"Aight he's getting Michael Chandler next," wrote one notable fighter in response to the knockout, highlighting the level of respect Parnasse earned with his performance.

Parnasse, 27, came into the UFC with an impressive resume on the European circuit, but doubts remained about whether his skills would translate to the world's premier MMA promotion. Those doubts were silenced in spectacular fashion.

For Hooker, the loss is a significant setback. The 36-year-old had been riding momentum after a strong run in the lightweight division, and this defeat raises questions about his future at the highest level.

Victor Wembanyama, the NBA superstar and fellow Frenchman, was among those celebrating the win, sharing video of the knockout on social media.

The UFC lightweight division is one of the most competitive in the sport, and Parnasse's arrival adds another dangerous name to the mix. While no next fight has been officially announced, the calls for a Chandler matchup are growing louder by the minute.

For now, Parnasse can savor a debut that few saw coming — and the MMA world will be watching closely to see what comes next.
